Listen to the silence. Use earbuds to block out ambient noise; turn off the radio in the car. Try it for, say, 5 minutes. Use the timer on your phone.
Most of us know what we really need, but we are afraid to listen. Instead, we distract ourselves by filling every moment with sensory input. But not every moment needs to be filled with sensory stimulation. Yes, learning to pause like this takes practice, but is is well worth the effort. It may make you more productive.
